Jimna

This ride is totally doable on big adventure tourers but the first part is a little dodgy, if it’s wet.  Riding north out of Kilcoy, veer right and follow Mount Kilcoy Road. This road starts off with a very picturesque, laid-back cruise through a beautiful valley, giving no hint of what’s in store.

As the road turns to dirt, you will quickly realise the mountain that’s looming, is where it’s taking you.

There is nothing too rough about the ascent up Mount Kilcoy, and it is totally achievable for most riders, but it’s certainly not a wet weather ride, unless you are on something more resembling an enduro bike and have the skill to go with it.

In winter however, you could happily do it on your Kimco Zoomer step through thingy ….. easily.

The alternative to get up to Jimna the easy way, is on the bitumen via Kilcoy-Murgon Road.

Back to Mount Kilcoy.  So, once you have made it up the mountain, this road will take you all the way to around a kilometre south of Jimna. After a stop for a coffee at ‘Pete’s Van’ at the Jimna School, head back out to Kilcoy-Murgon Road (dirt) and turn north.

About 3-4 kilometres north, turn left into Monsildale Road (dirt) and strap in for one of the most awesome, scenic rides you could hope for.

Monsildale Road winds its way down the mountain in spectacular fashion, before entering a beautiful valley that will take you all the way back to Kilcoy. Unlike Mount-Kilcoy Road, Monsildale Road is much more user friendly, in most weather conditions. Although, I should mention the concrete causeways can be quite greasy, so take care.

Unfortunately, Gmaps doesn’t show the continuation of Mount Kilcoy Road into Conondale NP and onto Jimna.  I have shown the first half and the alternative, that being Kilcoy-Murgon Road.
