2022 Happy 2nd Hand Year - or maybe NOT !
Anyone who has looked at buying a new bike recently, couldn’t help but notice the hard slog that it’s turned out to be.
So, what is the actual problem?
Firstly, it has nothing to do with shoddy salesmanship and it is not the fault of the dealer. You see, motorcycles suffer from globalisation, but who would’ve thought that was a problem 2 years ago. Globalisation is a great thing, until your product consisting of 1000 parts relies on countless little factories that make things like foot peg rubbers, or tail light lenses or that little rubber seal that stops rain getting into your headlight.
Once your product is reliant on those little factories, what you don’t need is a global pandemic
What does this mean for 2022?
Firstly, a massive shortage in new bikes.
What do we do about that?
As consumers, we start demanding good 2nd hand bikes and lots of them. The result of that is very reminiscent of the dunny rolls in supermarkets but unlike the heartfelt gesture of our major supermarkets, in keeping the price of ‘dot-rolls’ down, down, during these hard times, your average motorcycle vendor will be out to milk this global tragedy for all it’s worth.
In short, 2022 will consist of limited supply of new bikes, outrageously high priced 2nd hand bikes, parts shortages and motorcycle consumable shortages eg. tyres etc.
So be patient with Dealers and hang in there whilst the industry recovers and we all get back to normal.
